Sydney And Public Art

I have always been an advocate for public art as an important part of a cities soul. All the cities we know and love to travel to are exemplars and promoters of public art.

With all the infrastructure projects that I do, I always attempt to incorporate artistry of some kind. In last weeks Sydney Morning Herald my M7 infrastructure project and its Australian Light Horse sculptures, were given a mention in the Sydney Morning Herald.

I have always enjoyed the simplicity of this piece as it evokes a sense of curiosity and yet is meaningful to our history as a nation.

Art is a declaration that we hold other values dear; subjective, affective values like beauty, symbolism, spatial meaning. Art says yes, it’s a cost – and we reckon it’s worth it. In many ways, that’s the point.
